The Association will be well represented again next week at two very significant events:
- A meeting of the Council of Australian Volunteer Fire Associations (CAVFA), and
- The AFAC Conference 2017
The AVBFB has been an integral part of the establishment and growth of CAVFA since it was agreed that there was a need for national representation of volunteer fire brigade members, particularly with regard to federal political issues such as legal protection of volunteers and union/industrial relations issues. The 2 day CAVFA meeting starting this weekend will be held in Sydney and afford a rare opportunity for representatives of the 11 volunteer fire brigade associations to work on common goals and share valuable information to ensure maximum collaboration for the future.
The second significant event at which our amazing members will be represented next week is the largest emergency services conference of its type in the country – the AFAC 2017 Conference. While we still have some concerns about the fact that the largest emergency service in Western Australia (the Volunteer Bush Fire Service) is not represented in AFAC’s membership, we have taken the reluctant view that while the government continues to fund membership for other agencies, it is better to try to stay involved from the edge than not at all. The theme for this year is Collaborating for Success – Improving performance in emergency management and as one of the strongest advocates for the need for better collaboration over many years, you can rest assured that the AVBFB will be in the front row whenever possible.
We will no doubt provide updates on both very important meetings where possible throughout the week.
