A prescribed burn south Perth has got out of control, closing Albany Highway in both directions.
The fire is burning nearing Mount Cooke 20km east-south-east of Jarrahdale and has closed the highway between Jarrahdale Road and North Bannister-Wandering Road.
It was started by a prescribed burn that got out of control overnight.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the fire is uncontained and unpredictable but there is immediate threats to lives and homes.
The Bibbulmun Track has also been closed between Randall Road and Pikes Road near Albany Highway.
Yesterday the prescribed burn near Jarrahdale sent a huge cloud of smoke billowing into the sky over Perth.
A DFES spokesman said the first bushfires after winter tended to generate more smoke because of damp fuel loads.
DFES also issued a smoke alert for a prescribed burn near Wanneroo Road, between Bernard Road and Romeo Road yesterday.
