There’s a bit of a strange view among some that our emergency services are strictly regimented and routinely have demarcation disputes like we often see portrayed between the metropolitan Police and their Federal Counterparts on US TV crime shows.
While there is no doubt most of our services have particular areas of specialisation, anyone who has seen the incredible women and men of Western Australia’s emergency services in action knows too well that when disaster strikes, it’s all hands on deck and everyone just knuckles down to do what has to be done – together, side by side.
And given the likelihood of a lot of media in the coming weeks about the Rural Fire Service, we think it is critically important to take every opportunity possible to tell the whole story of the work our different services do, especially when they do it together.
So after hearing that the massive structure fire that occurred last week in Wangara was not only attended by the specialist Career Fire and Rescue service reported in the media, but also by volunteer bush fire brigades, we asked the DFES media team to help us promote the fact.
Here’s the wonderful response we received confirming the involvement of the presence of the Wanneroo Fire Support VBFB and Bullsbrook VFES as well as their strong support for us to spread the word about our amazing, diverse services that work well together whenever our communities need help.
According to the incident notes, there were two volunteer appliances including a 12.2 Bulk Water from Wanneroo Fire Support BFB and a 12.2 Bulk Water from Bullsbrook VFES. To my knowledge a 12.2 Bulk Water holds 2 people. Both crews assisted for close to an hour, arriving shortly before 9pm.
All media were advised verbally of the different volunteer groups assisting at the incident to prompt acknowledgement of all emergency services personnel involved.
We strongly support a newsletter article acknowledging their efforts.

Great work to all involved – the CFRS, VFES and of course (because we love our guys and girls a little bit more than everyone else) the VBFBS!!
